tiling away

happy new year to all of you!
we had dinner with good friends and a really nice evening:D
yesterday we were quite tired, but that didn`t stop me from filling the seams of the kitchen tiles.

i am still not completely done scrubbing the last bit of tile-glue from the tiles, muaa

what i learned from tiling:
1. use a water-saw with good blades
2.you don`t need fancy and expensive gloves, household rubber gloves do perfectly
3. use a mask and protection glasses while mixing the glue with a strong drill
4. start tiling in the morning, be prepared to cut more tiles as you put them on
5. order pizza while working on the kitchen, no meals are prepared there;)
6. scrub away the tile-glue before filling the seams
7. don`t let anybody tell you that it`s a man`s work
8. be proud when you`re done!

here some pictures, sorry about the poor quality, here in norway it`s dark most of the time nowadays...

have a great start into the new year

wall tiling

here are some pictures of the wall tiling in the kitchen that i did two weeks ago.
other than that it`s just work, work, work. we`re in high season for kitchen sales;)
the cold part of fall has begun in norway: the coldest morning last week: -6.4 C. bbrrrr

maybe time for some fall decorating soon?!

have a great week and seize the day!

white chimney

right...it`s my birthday today. a weird day. i was kind of renovating away the whole weekend.
the first message was that my husbands grandfather has died. on my birthday! hmmm. me don`t like :(.
may he rest in peace after all his suffering lately.
but my family was sweet and singing, giving me presents and sweet cards.
many people congratulated me on facebook and there were a lot of phonecalls.
one from my little (?) brother that told me, he is going to the united states for six months... i am happy for him:D

on saturday i put up tiles over the kitchen counter - oh my god - it was sooo physicially exhausting. this morning i felt like the oldest woman in the world! my whole body was aching ;) and i am 37 :O now.

then today while the little one was sleeping i gave the chimney a second coat of white so now i can finally show you.

the tiles are not finished, there were a few that didn`t fit and i couldn`t cut them in the dark.
but here the chimney:

flowers, tiles and summerparties

looking out of the window, kind of grey today...
i rented a watersaw to finally cut the tiles for the kitchen.
with new hope my man started, but:
not all that easy. this time the saw cut askew. both vertical and horizontal.
god lord, this is some ....fed up with this project.
am gonna ask the guys at work to borrow another saw or if the just can do it for me.

the whole point was to learn how to do it myself. oh well.
germany rocked in soccer!!! i`m so proud:D
we`re still in the game.
after the thing with the watersaw i took the train to moss, where my job had a summerparty.
i really had a good time and am not even that wasted today. we were

under a tent, where the rain was pooring down right beside us. one of the guys from work has a band that played the whole evening and as i said, it was fun. fun and loud;)
from tomorrow hubby has vacation and i will return the freakin watersaw.
have a beautiful day!

no cuts made

so so, this was my sunday. i wanted to cut the kitchen tiles. first lay them out on the kitchen floor, plan, draw and then cut.
i thought i could start in the afternoon. then there was my sweet husband, that wanted a haircut.
an our later the little boy was up from his nap and needed to eat. hmmmmmm. it took forever until i finally got started. the "boys" were playing soccer outside and i was planning, calculating and laying all the tiles out on the floor. it didn`t even take that much time, maybe three hours.

then it was time to make some dinner for my hungry family and late at night i started to cut the tiles with this horrible manual cutter i had borrowed from work. to be honest: i made one "cut" and gave up.
didn`t work at all. it just scratched the tiles.
now my plan is to borrow the electric cutter from work on friday:)

with new hope! haha!
have a beautiful day!
